I have officially jumped on the bandwagon. I was eager to hear the Avett Brothers at the Grammy’s…as they are one of my favorite bands…however, i was pleasantly surprised by the lyrical depth of Mumford and Sons. I am now a fan.
I got today off due to snow. I spent the morning with myself. As I get older, I really don’t mind being alone…for a little while. I enjoy the little ‘day off’ routines I put in place for myself. They usually include…drinking coffee while watching early morning shows. On slow mornings, I’ll make oatmeal…the old fashioned way. I then move onto cleaning…picking up the clothes that litter the floor throughout the week. Once finished, I feel as though I am able to relax in my room. I reheat coffee and then read. I love journaling or doodling with paints or crayons. I might grab the latest fiction novel downloaded on my trusty kindle. Once relaxed…if I feel up to it…I’ll go for a run.
That complete’s my day of “morning” routine. I throughly enjoy those slow mornings off…and look forward to many more of them.
So I have recently made a job switch. I am now a long term parapro for three first grade classes. Working five days a week 7:45am-3:30pm. I’m finding I am really enjoying these little kiddos. My day mostly consists of working with two or three students at a time. Helping them with whatever they are struggling with. I do a little carpool and hang with the class. I am loving it.
Here are the main reasons. School stays at school…no outside work. Kids really says the darnest things. Done at 3:30pm…leaving plenty of time for afternoon activities. I get to observe three different teaching styles. Watching students “get it.” I don’t have to say in the same place for more then 30 minutes. I have met a lot of new people. We have a snack time. I am a witness of child like compassion. The use of whiteboards. …and sounding out words.
